It has been confirmed that hosting operator The Planet has joined Linux Foundation, which ensures the operation of several million sites on systems running Linux. According to statistics in press release 15.7 million sites are currently deployed on Planet facilities, meanwhile 80% of Planet customers still prefer platform Linux.

As a part of Linux Foundation, Planet intends in participating in improving the capacity of Linux, work-related environments and cloud-virtualization. For example, the latest experimental service Planet "Server Cloud" is based on virtualization technology KVM. Among the supported operating systems at Planet a variety of choice is offered for RHEL, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, openSUSE, and FreeBSD.

Except Planet, in April more 7 companies joined Linux Foundation: LG, Collabora, Meyer Sound, CUBRID, Parallels, Ricoh, and Linpus Technologies.
